Transients
Coming soon: a running list of things that change in the sky, each with its reports from the observatories that saw it and a link to see it in the Orrery.
What will be listed
- Gamma-ray bursts and X-ray transients from NASA's GCN (General Coordinates Network) Circulars: the most significant 10% are kept; every gamma-ray burst is kept.
- Gravitational-wave events (LIGO, Virgo, KAGRA) and high-energy neutrinos (IceCube): always kept.
- Supernovae brighter than magnitude 14.5 and novae brighter than magnitude 12, from the IAU (International Astronomical Union) Transient Name Server.
- Bright comets and interstellar objects, from NASA/JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory).
- Earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 and above, from the USGS (US Geological Survey).
- Space weather that reaches Earth, from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center: geomagnetic storms G3 and above, solar radiation storms S2 and above, radio blackouts R3 and above.
